In VC6 I have my own wizard to generate an MFC dialog or form project with
a variable number of configurable edit boxes, buttons, file browse, trace
window, useful includes etc.

What is the method for doing this in VS2008?

Microsoft dropped support for the MFC Wizards - so the method that you
are asking for is absent in VS2008. I believe that they reintroduced
the MFC Wizards in VS2010, but I am not sure to what extent it
supports backward compatibility.
