So where is Joe Newcomer these days? I haven't seen him posting here
for quite some time. I kind of miss the surly old goat.

Where is anybody these days? I see approximately one new posting a month
in this newsgroup. The "Migration to MFC 10" thread seems like an
all-time high ...

Apparently everybody has rushed off to the web forum of Microsoft. I had
a look once and found it incredibly ugly. But I'm also one who hates
Google+ (spam) feeds and the new Google Groups. That's why I switched
back to good old Thunderbird and news.eternal-september.org

That's actually quite sad that something that works as great as Usenet
is dying. Nowadays everybody seems to be hot to get some credits for his
posting. Why isn't anybody satisfied with a simple "thank you" anymore?

Regards,
Stuart

Many of us still use their favourite newsreader to access the MS
forums - and wouldn't bother otherwise:

And it's so much more meaningful than rating systems too.

Well, MS closed it's newsserver in June 2010, Joe posted in this group
till August 2011. He always told in his postings, that he finds the
web forums inacceptable.

I do not think that his absence here might come from a migration to
another place.

I have a vague recollection that he might have had to have some
surgery - if so, so I hope he's doing OK.

I recall his posts last May (?) were unusually filled with typos, as
though he was in ill health. RL makes its demands and cyber takes a
back seat to health issues I'm sure.

I also recall that Joe wrote in 2006 that he was travelling around
in a wheelchair. And somewhen in 2010 or 2011 he mentioned something
about health. There were a few long threads here where he talked about
private things.

His website www.flounder.com is still online. But there are no
changes since July 2011.

I'm afraid, Joe is not well. oes anybody know details?

Joe, we are missing you!

Gosh, I never suspected that it was so serious.

I wonder if someone should just give him a call and ask him. His number
is on his website. I don't dare because I'm no native speaker.
